Meet the Rangers

ᐅᓇᑕᖅᑐᒃᓴᑦ ᑭᓇᐅᓂᖏᑦ

Master Corporal Sam Tulurialik has been a Ranger since 1984 when the patrol in Taloyoak first started. He is right hand man to Sergeant Abel Aqqaq and very involved in helping to organize the patrol.

Rebecca joined the Taloyoak Rangers in 2001, became a Junior Ranger leader in 2002 and has been on every annual exercise since, joking she loves doing ‘men’s’ work. Aside from her Ranger activities, Rebecca is very involved in her community.

Today’s Canadian Rangers had their beginnings in World War II. When a lighthouse on British Columbia’s coast was attacked by a Japanese submarine, it drew attention to the vulnerability of the sparsely populated coast.

THE CANADIAN RANGERS TODAY

ᐅᑉᓗᒥᐅᔪᖅ ᑲᓇᑕᒥ ᐅᓇᑕᖅᑐᒃᓴᑦ

Following the end of World War II, the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers role expanded to include other remote and coastal parts of Canada. They were relaunched in 1947 as the Canadian Rangers. In the 1970s, increased interest in protecting Canada’s North renewed interest in the Ranger program.
